It’s hard to identify the contemporary theological liberal movements because they are shrouded in traditionally conservative language and hidden in ostensibly conservative institutions.
Here are a few key identifiers:
1. Talk big ”gospel” but small Bible.
2. Imply that Jesus wanted everyone to be nice and get along rather than fight for what is good and true.
3. Prefer to use power and administrative coercion rather that biblical argument and persuasive preaching.
4. Like secret meetings and strategic cabals; lead mainly through gossip and innuendo.
5. Hate the Ten Commandments. Or really any laws of God. Or any restriction upon their authority.
6. Sexuality is very conservative but don’t want the church or God to take anyone else’s sexuality very seriously. Usually presented as being gospel centered or grace centered or Christ centered but a cover for licentiousness and the compromise of historic church standards of righteousness.
